Appreciation

It’s that time of year again.

The autumn colours warm the heart, soothe the soul and nourish the brain. I am so lucky to be healthy. To be mobile. To wake every morning and use my legs to walk around and explore similar or new haunts, to be present in the crisp air, under mauve clouds.

I sometimes think of all those people who wake up and don’t appreciate how fortunate they are to live, to walk, to appreciate the simple pleasures of all that is around us. I say simple but they’re miracles, we just take them for granted. For instance, the miracle of a day, a season, a tree, a fire.

I am a lucky person to be on this green earth for such a short time. I won’t get the pleasure again. In a nation so rich of natural resources as this one I am often put back by the sheer volume of alcoholics, drug and food addicts, shopaholics, workaholics, mindless drones who don’t participate in their own lives to the fullest.

They don’t think of all they can do in a day to feed their being that doesn’t involve ingesting a single thing other than air.

Living a Peter Pan type of life, believing they’ll never age when their bodies and minds are breaking down from their own self-inflicted neglect and abuse.

There is so much more than that. So much more.

I’m not a holy man, I don’t pray, but I do bow to the superiority of nature.

I’m heading to the cottage this weekend where it’s forecasted to rain every day. That’s so wonderful. I can’t wait.
